crafting FUNCTIONAL, SUSTAINABLE, and DELIGHTFUL objects since 2014...

Research & Development

Experimentation and prototyping is at the core of our work. In fact, much of our time is spent on looping through research, design, prototyping, and testing. Many iterations are usually carried out before we can finally release our crafted objects.

Some of our research areas include:

  • Digital Fabrication - 3D Printing, Laser cutting/engraving, CNC Machining, etc.
  • Electronics - Arduino applications, particular interests in robotics.
  • Circular Economy - Recyclability of materials such as paper and plastics.

Here are some of the things we had experimented with...

Before CNY last year, our studio artist completed writing a piece of Chinese calligraphy art with 100 different interpretations of the character 福 (blessing) in seal script (百福圖). This year, instead of writing out the hundred letters again, he designed and drew 100 Blessed Sleeping Tigers (躺平福虎)! For this mini art project, we collaborated with […]

The crafted Christmas tree should follow the studio’s principles of being functional, sustainable, and delightful. We had put down this annual tradition for a few years but decided to pick it […]

We experimented with silkscreen printing after getting less than satisfactory result with the linoleum stamps. […]

img_3817We experimented with stamp making by CNCing our logo on linoleum (i.e. linocut). The result was satisfactory, it’s an area we shall explore further in the future. […]

red-eggsWe attempted and successfully dyed eggs in red using vinegar and red powder (花紅粉) bought from Chinese medicine shop. We also CNC-ed some simple cork egg stands to compliment the beautifully dyed red eggs. […]
